| The new
Conservation Stewardship Program
encourages producers to adopt new conservation practices
or improve and maintain existing conservation practices
to address resource concerns. It is a voluntary
conservation program available nationwide on a
continuous application basis. NRCS will provide
financial and technical assistance to eligible producers
to conserve and enhance soil, water, air and related
natural resources on their land.

The Virgin Islands Resources Conservation & Development Council, Inc., in collaboration with
numerous partners, has been awarded over $2.7 million in NOAA Coastal & Marine Habitat
Restoration funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of
2009 for their
USVI Coastal Habitat Restoration through Watershed Stabilization
project to control erosion and sediment
runoff in St Croix and St. John, USVI. |

The Recovery Act funding for NRCS will fund projects that provide the greatest public and environmental
benefits through
floodplain easements
and investments in watershed infrastructure improvements. Watershed
rehabilitation projects will mitigate the risks of failure and threats
to public safety posed by aging flood control infrastructure. Potential
projects are being evaluated and specific information will be posted as
implementation proceeds. The
NRCS Caribbean Area announces new floodplain easement program
in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
