Virgin Islands Conservation District

The Virgin Islands Conservation District (VICD) was organized by the Virgin Islands Legislature to provide for the conservation and development of the soil, water and other natural resources of the Virgin Islands. The VICD is responsible for the broad soil and water conservation program set forth in Sections 41-49 of Title 7, Chapter 3 of the Virgin Islands Code. The Directors will work with individuals, organizations and agencies interested in soil and water conservation, land use planning, watershed protection and flood prevention in the broadest sense to secure their assistance and support in planning and carrying out VICD's program.

The VICD is a legal sub-division of the Virgin Islands Government that operates under the supervision of the Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture. Members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Legislature from a list submitted by the Commissioner of Agriculture, and serve without pay. The VICD is administered by its Board of Directors (Directors), composed of eleven directors from St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas. Six members are farmers, three members represent the Virgin Islands Historic Preservation Commission, and two members have non-agricultural interests.

Contact the VICD office at 340-692-9662 x.106 for additional information.
